UPDATE: August 14, 2012

•Dina's cause has recently been invigorated by inquiries made to the United States Department of State's Office of Holocaust Issues.  It is our fervent hope that these talented diplomats may find common footing with Polish officials so that the Babbitt Collection may be returned to Mrs. Babbitt's daughters.

•A producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation current affairs program--The Current-- recently made contact.  The CBC interviewed Dina Babbitt on June 8, 2008.  In the hour long interview.  Ms. Babbitt shared how she survived Auschwitz by creating the paintings for Dr. Josef Mengele and her life long battle to get the paintings back.

The CBC is now marking the 10th Anniversary of their program with a website that showcases some of their best interviews.  The CBC's interview with Ms. Babbitt is being featured as part of this website.  They were interested in what developments if any have taken place since Mrs. Babbitt's passing away.

Dina's memorial was well attended and conducted in a spirit she would have appreciated.  Readings were interspersed with wonderful music while hugs were shared and tears flowed.  Daughters Karin Babbitt and Michelle Kane vowed to press the fight to obtain the works that rightfully belonged to their mom, and now to them and their children.

Dina's story has taken many twists and turns over the 36 years since she discovered that her paintings had been preserved and were now a part of the Auschwitz Museum's collection.  The latest news involves the appearance of language in the most recent appropriations bill covering the State Department's funding for 2010 and 2011.  Section 1114 of this bill directs the President, Secretary of State, Polish officials and  museum officials to work out the means to deliver these paintings to their rightful owner, Mrs. Babbitt's heirs.
